Indian Ocean, east to Sumatra. Closely related to Chaetodon ephippium and hybrids are known. Occurs mainly in inshore or sheltered reefs with rich coral growth to about 20m depth. Usually solitary, but adults occasionally in pairs. Identified by its greyish-white body with thin, dusk-blue chevron lines, bright yellow on head that continuous onto the ventral fins, and yellow dorsal and anal fins. Length to 20cm.
